You let us know what you thought about the new website

First of all we want to thank you for all the feedback you gave us. Please know that we take it very serious in our continuous effort to improve our University website.

Some of the feedback was submitted before the launch, but after we had published a screenshot of the new design.

Below you'll find some of the comments to the following questions:

  1. What additional new features would you like to see on the website?
  2. How does the new design compare with the old?

"Will individual offices be able to change the look of their webpages to mirror the new homepage? This is a 100% improvement. The old website was not user friendly. It appears that the new version will be more user friendly and appealing to the eye.  Hopefully you will not have to click more than two time to find what you are looking for."
"The student newspaper should have a direct link from the homepage."
"The new design is ugly. I'm a webmaster and I don't like it at all."
"I like the new design much more!"
"We would like to see pictures of Greeks and more sports and start taking pictures of SGA members and stop putting offguard pictures because its tacky. - Its looks pretty. I think you should leave it just like that."
"A page especially for the band. A better representation of our residence halls. The new design looks like heaven compared to the old design. Many universities web pages are what helps to get students attention. (EX. norfolk state, north carolina A&T, EVEN Johnson C. SMith)."
"Shouldn't we have a link to Student Affairs across the top? - It looks more professional and provides more interesting information. I like the current one but the design seems a little amateur."
"N/A, the new features listed sound good. - From the looks of things its going to be a lot better. It looks more professional, interactive and user friendly."
"I think it will be great if FSU has its offical profile on myspace/facebook, I think it will be a great method to communicate with the students. I think that if FSU use these social networks to communicate with the students, it will a positive impact. - WOW, it looks great, I have seen different web pages of universities here in NC, and I think FSU will have one of the best web sites."
"I think its a great idea that FSU decided to make a new design."
"More photos. - I like it. It's much better."
"The top banner of FSU website has only a small logo and plain blue bar. It looks very pale. I think we should have some pitures (such as campus photo) blended to it so it will look better. The title for department page should be better designed as well. - It is more informative, but more crowded. News with headline and big photos (for that news) should have more space to attract visitors."
"The new design is so much better; I really like it."
"Acess to blackboard from the inside fsu portal since log in information is the same."
"Nice to have a link to the bookstore site on the front page. - Cleaner."
"The FSU logo part is not as good as the old vision."
"The new design makes Fayetteville State University more appealing."
"Would tabs for all the sub pages free up more space for content? - Looks better. A bit busy though."
"I think we should have a directory for staff and students at least with the email addresses."
"The new design is busier than the old. I actually looked at the prototypes and favored the biz one."
"I really do enjoy the new look. It's interesting, refreshing, and exciting. It's gives FSU a totally close and personal feel."
"I love the new website!!!!"
"Much cleaner and makes it easier to find things now."
"I don't like the look nearly as well as the old.  I miss the student pictures the most.  Just my opinion."
"Awesome-looking site, Folks!"
"I don't like it. I want the old one back."

You suggested what new features we needed on our website

New Website launched on August 9, 2009.
We want to take this opportunity to share some of the suggestions we received through the "What features would you like to see on the website" survey in iNside FSU before launching the new design:

The survey questions were:

  1. What new features would you like to see?
  2. Why?

"More pictures of current students and updated pictures! - Why not?"
"Different colors - It brings out the fun with different colors on it."
"A search block in which you can type a related word and it will take you either to the place or provide options. - It will make navigation through the website so much easier."
"Animation - it needs flavor."
"Local weather, ticker - Self explained."
"Learning community chatrooms. Individual class chats. A  topic of the day section. Oh yeah and how about a ""Top 10 best student expressions" button. A lottery?"
"LINKS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS.... DEPARTMENT WEB-SITES! - The main page is more focused on undergraduate students and speaking on behalf of most graduate students, we are more concerned with links for blackboard, blackboard (banner, etc), and individual departmental areas. The football, links for social functions, and promotional information does not aid us at all. It is more aggrevation than anything else."
"Info correction form for Human Resources. Ex. name, address, phone number, etc change. - To save time and gasoline."
"I would like to see current information on the web pages. I would also like to see a more complete listing of current events (workshops, seminars, lectures, etc. - This information would be extremely helpful in checking information on planned events as well as reviewing other information."
"I would like to see new pictures and maybe an whole web icon called FSU YEAR of 2007-2008 GREAT MOMENTS or something. - It would bring more students to our campus if they knew how much fun it is to be a Buckin Bronco!!!"
"I would like to see a link to Fayetteville State specific social sites: i.e. Facebook and myspace and possibly some chat sites for use solely for students. - The internet gives us an avenue to instantly connect to one another and not everyone has the opportunity to meet with friends. It also allows classmates to work on projects if they are unable to meet with one another."
"Updated Pictures and also a more spirited layout. Maybe we could a have a picture of the fountain, Cheer Phi, or The Marching Band. When I have visited other schools websites sometimes they will have pictures of various school organizations. It could be the choir, band, cheerleaders, or even SGA. As a Senior in high school, I know that when I started my college search these things are what caught my attention. Also FSU has bronco mobile if the website would have a ad or link on the home page that shows the phone or a section that says "Whats New on FSU's Yard" and showcase Bronco Mobile it would be more inviting. This would catch peoples attention and also maybe persuade them into joining. Res Life and Other Websites need to be updated. More detailed pictures of the dorms, and lounges would be a nice addition. Schools websites that I feel are nice are WSSU, VSU, NSU, and NC A&T. Maybe we can use some of the ideas that they have on their websites to make ours more appealing...- just a thought."
"A more organized, contemporary, and, "stream-lined" site. - Its easier to navigate AND you'll be more comfortable as if you actually WANT to access the site (more inviting)."
"1) Profiles and lists of successful graduates on department pages (Name, graduation date, job or graduate school information): see http://www.nwciowa.edu/english/graduates.aspx for an example.
2) More pictures of students and teachers in classrooms, libraries, and "the field" (student teaching, for example) on the FSU website. - I think that these additions would emphasize the academic accomplishments at FSU."
"The gym hours for the facilitites for non students. If after class you want to play raquestball, walk, or swim- what are the guidelines. If we are morbidly obese in htis country- what can the gym do to help us."
"I WOULD LIKE 2 SEE MORE OF THE STUDENTS INTERACTING IN THE STUDENT CENTER. THE STUDENT CENTER IS LIKE A SANCTUARY FOR THE STUDENTS AFTER LONG DAY OF WORK. THE STUDENT CENTER IS ALSO A MEET AND GREET NEW AND OLD FACES OF THE CAMPUS."
"Please incorporate more photographs and text that represent the diversity of the FSU student body, i.e, showing the nontraditional returning students (from Fort Bragg, for example), as well as the traditional students. - A representation of the diversity of the FSU student body would encourage even more students of various ages and backgrounds to choose FSU over UNC, Pembroke, for example, which specifically targets the military community through advertising."
"Music and special effects."
"Faster logins, less downtime, more choices."
"Local weather information, ticker - To allow students to see the local situation without going to adifferent web site etc..."
"I think you should put the  mascot on the background of the site.. - the plain white is just blah...:-)"
"Log in only once to access all applications including citrix etc. - more user friendly."

We will post the feedback we have received on the new website tomorrow.
