FSU home page is getting a new look

Two years into the FSU Website Redesign Project, it is time to give the home page a new look again. The new design includes several new features: for example, an interactive slideshow, a poll, channels for YouTube, upcoming events, spotlights, and links to various social networking sites. All the resources you are used to access from the home page will still be there. >> Read More

Malicious e-mail

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Colleagues, There are several malicious e-mails that have begun to circulate. At this time it looks like the emails are being sent from news@president.com and news@bbc.com. "The malware blitz stems from spam messages touting Sen. Barack Obama's victory, and offers up a link to what is supposedly a site sporting election results." When users click on the link they are directed to a fake site that want to install an update to Adobe's Flash Player before viewing a video. What is actually downloaded is a Trojan horse that compromises the PC then floods the machine with more malware. You can read the entire article at Computer World. As always, do not follow links or open attachments from addresses that you do not know or were not expecting. If you have and questions feel free to contact me or if you believe that you have been infected please shut down your computer and contact the helpdesk Helpdesk at x2085. Thank you.

Things are changing at FSU....

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Colleagues,

Our new Microsoft Exchange 2007 environment is now operational. Over the next 3 weeks we will be moving e-mail accounts to the new environment.  E-mail is a critical system of the university, therefore, the mailboxes will be moved between the hours of 10pm and 6am. It is important to know that while your account is being migrated you will not have access to your e-mail. E-mails that are sent to you while your account is being migrated will be delivered as soon as the account has been successfully migrated.  Many of you will not notice a change, those of you who leave your computer on and Outlook open at all times will be prompted to restart Outlook once your account has been successfully migrated.  Outlook 2007 is intelligent enough to reconfigure itself for the new server settings and no interaction is necessary to complete the change.

Things that will change:

1.      The Webmail URL for you will become https://webmail.uncfsu.edu/owa and this link will be added to the Faculty/Staff Webmail portal.

2.      The mail connector within iNside FSU will not function until all mailboxes have been moved to the new system.

3.      The ActiveSync server location for the Treo's, and other non Blackberry PDA's, will change back to webmail.uncfsu.edu and will require SSL to be enabled

4.      You'll be able to access your shared drives (T:, O:, etc) from within Webmail itself  (see instructions posted on the ITTS Website by clicking here).

5.      Webmail will have full 2007 functionality with contextual menus and full customization to the look and feel of the client (just like Outlook).

6.      You will not be able to access your account via https://webmail.uncfsu.edu/exchange.

If you have any questions concerning the e-mail migration please contact me or the Helpdesk at x2085.
